Raum3 is the project space of bootlab e.V., a non-profit foundation and cultural institution collectively-organized by a number of groups and individuals working on media-related projects.
The lab is housed in a building which used to be the city's Telegraphy Bureau before the war. It is an old, unkempt house, boarded up in some places, but known by the late-nineties club scene as the former location of the WMF. This mammoth structure has over 6 floors, 8 entrances, and 2 internal courtyards, comprised in total of nearly 2500 qm of space. It shares a courtyard, which is as equally non-descript as it is oversized, with an older red-brick Deutsche Telekom building, which extends along the entire block to Tuckolskystrasse.
It is a street rarely frequented by strolling tourists, or even adventurous cyclists, despite its being located at the intersection of Monjioupark and Oranienburger Strasse - nothing more than a few dozen steps away from Schinkel's Museumsinsel, the Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin, and the Neue Synagogue. It undoubtedly represents a kind of no-where zone paradoxically located in the heart of Berlin.
